“Research involving thousands of participants has shown how focused feedback and follow-up can increase leadership, customer service, and team effectiveness.” (Hesselbein, Goldsmith, and Beckhard, 1996)
It is known that the three keys to permanent and powerful change are
- High impact
- High frequency
- Ongoing support
It has also been shown that it takes 90 days to change a habit.
One of the major determinants to success of any training and development course is the effort put toward affecting lasting change afterward. Most people don’t do anything once they leave the training session, so any learning obtained during the course is lost or severely diminished.
Follow-up coaching for 90 days beyond any workshop ensures that new behaviors and goals have an opportunity to be entrained, incorporated, and fully realized. Furthermore and more importantly, the support and monitoring of individual development is off-loaded from the manager, allowing for more personal attention for the employee and more time for the manager to do other things.
Step 1
Option A: Workshop
Individual attends Team Effectiveness, Personal Career Management, Personal Branding, or Fast Forward Process workshop
Option B: Goal Setting Session
Individual works with coach to determine personal development and career goals to focus on for the initial coaching timeframe. Manager input requested but not required.
Step 2: Individual Coaching:
Employee works individually with Coach with a focus on fulfillment of personal goals.
Step 3 (optional): Individual Survey
A final survey is used to obtain feedback to identify progress made and next steps.
